Out with the Old!
he beginning of a year presents an opportunity for hope and fresh beginnings. It’s a natural time to make or renew goals and to start new projects. And as a guitar player, there are always things to look forward to beginning or deepening. But before adding new things to your practice routine, take a look at what you can let go of from 2024. Letting go of the old is a great way to invite the new!
Exercises and warm-ups
Have you been doing the same exercises so long that you no longer experience value from them? It may be time to let go of some of them. Even if an exercise has timeless value, as this one does, it might benefit from a fresh perspective. This article will help you breathe new life into old routines.
Arrangements
Step back and listen to your tried-and-true repertoire. Do all of the songs still reflect your feelings and your taste? If not, let them go! There may be others that you still resonate with, but feel they’ve gotten stale. Put those on a list to be reworked. Review this article for some ideas.

Like poor practice habits, negative beliefs and poor self-talk can sabotage your success. If you believe that you are somehow lacking and incapable of reaching your guitar goals, you’re operating under a false belief. Commit to letting those untrue beliefs go. Changing your thoughts and beliefs may require more discipline than practicing your guitar does, but it’s a powerful practice.
