Charlotte’s instruction books are wonderful tools, easy to understand and a lot of fun. I use them with my own students and their confidence grows when they see that Charlotte’s process of
learning new “tricks” is not that hard! I highly recommend this book especially for any music library!

A Guitar Player’s Guide to Ear Training is a complete, audio-based introduction course that covers a broad range of fundamental ear training topics, including rhythm, the major and minor scales, intervals, chord construction, and more. This book has the potential to support a broad audience, ranging from beginning through experienced guitarists, as the approach is very methodical, and a minimum of music theory is given where necessary. The book relies heavily on the included audio CD’s, which contain not only exercises and examples, but also a significant amount of spoken advice, which augments the written material. The overall feel is more of a series of one-on-one lessons than of a workbook or set of exercises. I highly recommend this book as a practical guide for anyone interested in improving their sense of rhythm, relative pitch, and harmony. My only suggestion would be that the organization of the material could be improved: in some places the book is hard to follow without the CD, and some of the audio tracks could be broken into shorter tracks to make it easier to find and repeat specific sections.
