Charlotte Adams’ book You and Your Guitar is an easy yet involved read. It was quite enjoyable to sit down and read a whole book revolving around the study of guitar. The book is full of practical tips and advice for learning and/or improving your guitar skills. It is also enriched with Charlotte’s inner wisdom and philosophy she has developed over a lifetime of playing guitar. This book is very relatable for a player at any level. It is encouraging for those just starting out, yet still inspiring for those who have already been playing for years. It is the philosophical glue that ties all of Charlotte’s other five books together. The book covers proper ways to prepare for playing, goes into detail about the various aspects of our humanity that are involved in music, and the multiple practices and skills required to be successful. The book also provides insight into how to safely take care of your hands through playing with the right technique. The book wraps up by assisting the student in developing their personal plan for solitary practice, and offers advice for simple ways to join with others to share and enjoy music.

“Digging it!” This was what I wrote to Charlotte after purchasing this well written book. As a beginner I found Charlotte in hopes of establishing some structure to my quest for learning how to play the guitar. “You and Your Guitar” is a must read, especially for a beginner. It goes well beyond explaining the fundamentals and techniques for learning and will help you understand the “WHY”. The structure, the method and the common-sense approach that I was seeking was found in this book.

Wow! I love this book! I’ve been playing and practicing for at least a few decades, and You and Your Guitar is unlike anything else I’ve come across. For me it’s a holistic guide to approaching the guitar, with wisdom and practical tools that I will continue to reference over time – fundamentals that will also be useful to folks just starting out. The workbook, journal and practice log is perfect for helping me keep track of my own process, and also makes sure my practice and composing continues to evolve – just what I needed. Thank-you Charlotte Adams!

My daughter and I have both started learning to play the guitar and she loves the journal. It’s been a great way to keep her motivated during the early days of learning the basics. The book is made of high quality print material and I’m confident it will last through some rough teen-ager treatment.

5 stars – This book is NOT your average run of the mill instruction manual. It contains so much more than the basic techniques for playing the guitar. It is only 109 pages long but it is packed. I highly recommend this book and all that goes with it – Charlotte’s approach has given me a way to continue my study of the guitar in a virtual manner at my own pace and still gives me the ability to access so much more.
